The US Consulate in Chennai offers student visas

On November 17, 2020, the US Consulate in Chennai, India, posted a video on YouTube, inviting Indian students to schedule an appointment to apply for their student visas.

In fact, the US Consul General in Chennai, Judith Ravin, stated in the video: “We are offering as many visa appointments as possible for students visa applicants.” This project is part of the International Education Week, which takes place between November 16 and 20, 2020.

It is important to clarify that India is the second country that sends most students to the US annually, after China. However, Chinese students are having difficulties getting to the US due to Trump’s travel ban.

Hence, as Indian students constantly invest in the education sector of the US, the consulate in Chennai is encouraging more people to apply for student permits. Adding to that, the US’ Department of State (DOS) and Department of Education (DOE) also participated and supported this initiative to bring in more foreign students.

The purpose of the project

According to official figures from annual report Open Doors, during the 2019-20 study period, 193,124 foreign students in the US came from India, which represents 18%.

However, this figure decreased 4.4% compared to the 2018-19 study period, when there were 202,014 Indian students in the US.

It is important to remember that these periods were not affected by the global Coronavirus pandemic, meaning that the current figure, which will be released next year, should be even lower after the health crisis.

Apart from that, dozens of schools and universities state that economic investment of foreign students greatly helps the education sector of the US and allows local students to have discounts and subsidies. Adding to that, they also bring talent, innovation, entrepreneurship and dedication.

Current immigration processes

It is no secret that the massive outbreak of COVID-19 in the North American territory greatly affected the local immigration system. This is mainly due to the fact that the Trump administration implemented multiple emergency measures to mitigate the impact of the health crisis, which substantially changed several immigration processes.

However, we are already seeing how immigration processes gradually return to normal around the world and it is the right time for you to start your immigration journey in the US.

Adding to that, the American population elected Joe Biden as the next president of the nation and his vision on immigration differs from that of the Trump administration. Therefore, his government plans to expand legal alternatives for immigrants and continually boost the economy with international support.
