The USCIS Notices Response Time is Still Extended

You still have 60 days to present your documentation to the USCIS

Current delays in immigration processes

Naturally, the global Coronavirus pandemic transformed multiple sectors of society as we know it and the way we relate to our environment.

It is well known that almost all countries around the world decided to close their borders for a considerable period of time to avoid the import and export of the virus. Therefore, the immigration sector has felt the strong impact of the pandemic.

Speaking specifically about the US, multiple emergency measures implemented during the health crisis directly affect the immigration sector.

Only taking into account that the offices of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) closed to the public for more than two months, we can conclude the magnitude of delays in immigration processes.

It is important to clarify that the USCIS is the federal entity, belonging to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), that is in charge of receiving, reviewing and responding to the country’s immigration applications.

Therefore, due to the offices closure, immigration processes are currently behind schedule, which substantially lengthens the waiting time for applicants. In addition to that, the Trump administration also suspended multiple options that were available to foreigners before the health emergency caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to these drawbacks, the USCIS currently offers several alternatives, tools and possibilities that foreigners can use if they have a pending immigration case and need to present new documentation.

Now, you have more time to respond to USCIS notices

When the USCIS officials review an immigration application and determine that more information or evidence is needed but not serious enough to reject the application, the federal entity will send a notice to the applicant, asking for missing documentation to make a final decision.

These notices usually have an expiration date. By this, we mean that applicants must submit the required documentation during a specified period of time.

However, due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the USCIS extended the response time for notices since May, 2020. Applicants have now 60 days after the deadline to submit documentation requested by the federal agency.

With this, the USCIS intends to alleviate the workload for its employees, as well as extend the deadline for applicants to properly organize the documentation.
