Study Shows the Trump Government Changes In Immigration Policy

MPI study analyzes changes implemented on immigration by Trump

The Trump administration’s stance on immigration

One of the main pillars of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is the immigration sector of the US. The president believes that previous administrations allowed mass immigration and it has affected the country’s economic and social system tremendously.

Thus, since Trump took office in 2017, he has focused strongly and tirelessly on reducing the number of immigrants entering the country and increasing border protocols in order to eradicate illegal immigration.

Over the last four years, the government has made more than 400 changes in immigration policy, which has significantly modified previously established processes and regulations.

The Trump administration’s immigration management has sparked unprecedented social controversy in the US. Clearly, we must take into account that we are going through a global pandemic that also helped the government to implement even more restrictions for immigrants.

Recent study exposes the changes made by the Trump government

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is an organization dedicated to research and analysis of immigration policies, exposing all the possible repercussions of presidential decisions and inciting dialogue on possible solutions to the controversy of the immigration sector in the US.

A MPI study was published in July 2020. This document is called “Dismantling and Reconstructing the U.S. Immigration System: A Catalog of Changes under the Trump Presidency”.

This report exposes all the changes made by the Trump government and ensures that the immigration system has never been rebuilt as quickly as today in the history of the US.

The study also shows in detail the transformation of the borders with Mexico and the considerable reduction of illegal immigration from Central America.

Apart from that, the study talks about issues such as political asylum, immigrant minors, specialized foreign workers, international students and the role of the global Coronavirus pandemic in immigration processes.

The report also states that most of the immigration policies implemented by the current administration are likely to remain in place for a considerable period of time, even after the Trump presidency.

Finally, experts from the MPI argue that the immigration changes of the Trump government will surely be a key part of his presidential campaign for the upcoming elections.
