Current risks for immigrants

Most immigrants trying to enter and remain in the US are having a difficult time today.

There are several policies imposed by Trump’s government that have negatively affected immigrants trying to obtain residence in the US.

Let’s look at some of the current risks for immigrants.

Coronavirus risk in detention centers

Immigrants are facing is the unstoppable spread of the Coronavirus around the world.

Immigrants who arrive at the US borders seeking asylum are forced to stay in detention centers, that can be a hotbed for the virus, until they receive an answer regarding their cases.

Hygiene in the facilities of the detention centers is not adequate for the circumstances of a pandemic.

Coronavirus is the greatest threat to the immigrant population today.

In fact, the number of immigrants requesting asylum at the borders has been considerably reduced due to the concern of the virus.

On the other hand, federal employees who are in direct contact with multitudes of immigrants on a daily basis are also in danger if the necessary corrective measures are not taken for the immigration centers in the US.

Violence and rapes

Immigrants who do not know the correct protocols to apply for legal residence, often choose to venture into the dangerous audacity of trying to cross the border illegally.

When immigrant families decide to attempt to cross borders illegally, they usually have to go through dangerous situations.

The entire journey and violence they go through are sometimes even more difficult than crossing the borders. They must constantly confront gangs that attack, steal or hit them.

They must walk through trails, rivers, forests, often without food or water, which has caused several deaths recently.

Skilled Workers

Despite the Coronavirus concern, skilled workers are still allowed to enter the US to do seasonal work.

For this, a US employer must fill out a petition to bring in a qualified worker from another country.

However, the process seems to be more complicated now for foreign workers who want to contribute to the country.

This is a risk that workers and employers are taking because it implies that the labor demands of the country might not be met.

Kidnappings

Anything can happen during risky trips to cross borders illegally.

There are multiple official reports showing an alarming number of immigrants being kidnapped.

Most of the people reported are girls, teenagers or women between 20 and 40 years old that were kidnapped when trying to cross the US border illegally.
