Elections are Getting Closer and Trump resumes the Border Wall Ideal

Trump plans to collect funds through a toll to build the border wall

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign

The elections will take place in November 2020, and the current president of the US, Donald Trump, is seeking re-election.

The Trump administration tends to refer to immigration with a negative connotation and the president has stated on multiple occasions that the massive entry of foreigners harms the country’s economy and the stability of the local market.

President Trump’s political identity is related to the ideal of reducing immigration, both legal and illegal. Therefore, during the last years, the current government has implemented multiple restrictions and changes in some immigration processes.

For instance, in an attempt to eradicate illegal immigration, the Trump administration proposed to finish the border wall that divides the US from Mexico. In fact, the border wall was one of the pillars of Trump’s campaign to win the 2016 election.

Currently, according to official figures from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the border wall has a total of 275 miles.

Therefore, because the project has not been completed, the Trump administration took up the idea of the border wall and is using it again to boost its presidential campaign.

The president traveled to the borders and talked about the border wall

On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, President Trump traveled to Arizona, close to Mexico’s borders, and spoke about his intention to finish the border wall and thus eradicate illegal immigration.

In fact, the Trump administration is proposing to build a toll at border crossings from Mexico and raise funds to continue with the construction of the wall.

The president openly stated: “We have people entering this country. Some great people, some very bad too, and I mean murderers, rapists, really bad people. And they do not return, when we take them back to their countries, it may be Mexico, they do not return.”

This news has generated concern among immigrant communities and activists, as the Trump administration resumed its “anti-immigrant” discourse that could unleash social chaos in the US.

Now that the elections are getting closer, the current administration is using all possible resources to win re-election and it is important for the local population to carefully analyze the proposals of the candidates to elect with caution the next leader of the nation.

In addition to that, the US is still the main epicenter of the global Coronavirus pandemic and the next president must continue with the task of protecting the economy, the health of citizens and overcoming the current crisis.
