CDC Still Supports Border Restrictions

CDC issues statement supporting border restrictions

The health crisis led to the implementation of restrictive policies

The sudden arrival of the global Coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the healthcare sector undoubtedly affected the American population and forced the local government, with then President Donald Trump leading the nation, to implement unconventional measures to reduce the health risk.

As part of its strategy to mitigate the impact of the global pandemic, the Trump administration closed the US’ borders for a considerable period of time and paused immigration almost completely through Title 42 and with the approval and endorsement of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Under the consent of CDC, the Trump administration banned most immigrants from entering the US, except for a few specific cases. This rule undoubtedly caught the attention of dozens of immigrant rights advocates, activist groups and humanitarian organizations, who stated that Trump was using the health crisis as a means and a pretext to reduce immigration levels, which was always his purpose.

As multiple immigration processes have changed over the past year, the best recommendation and decision when it comes to starting your immigration journey in the US or completing a pending process is undoubtedly to seek reliable help from experts, who have the necessary and appropriate tools to lead you towards the success of your immigration application. Biden under fire over border restrictions

Currently, President Joe Biden, who took office in January 2021, is in the midst of a myriad of criticism because his administration has not yet lifted border restrictions related to the healthcare crisis, which was one of his main promises during his political campaign.

However, it is important to explain that it does not mean that the Biden administration does not intend to lift Trump’s limitations, but rather that the country is currently going through a surge of illegal border crossings and removing certain restrictive policies, including Title 42, could unleash an immigration, humanitarian and health crisis.

Therefore, the Biden administration is facing an unprecedented challenge and is constantly receiving comments and suggestions from both immigrant rights advocates and more conservative members of the Government who support stricter border policies.

CDC issues statement supporting border restrictions

On Monday, August 2, 2021, CDC issued a statement called “CDC Extends Order at the Southern and Northern Land Borders”, which declares that border restrictions for non-citizens (undocumented immigrants) should remain active as a new massive outbreak of COVID-19 is taking place in North American territory.

CDC openly argues that the massive influx of foreigners at the borders could pose a threat to public health and that the new variant (Delta) undoubtedly increases the health risk. In fact, according to the statement, “This order shall remain in effect until the CDC Director determines that the danger of further introduction of COVID-19 into the United States from covered noncitizens has ceased to be a serious danger to the public health”.
