Biden’s Agenda Could Face Obstacle if it does not Include Immigration Reform

Certain Democratic leaders will not support Biden’s plan without immigration reform

Three Democratic members of the US House of Representatives recently stated that they will not support Biden’s ‘Build Back Better’ agenda if it does not include certain significant immigration reforms.

This fact may become a gigantic inconvenience for the Biden administration, which is trying to introduce this bill through the reconciliation process to circumvent the Republican filibuster in the Senate and pass it with only 51 votes, the entire Democratic Caucus.

However, if three Democratic members reject Biden’s proposal, it is possible that his administration’s only chance to move forward on the immigration system will be left behind.

Therefore, it is imperative for the current administration to seek the means to promote prominent changes to the local immigration system to improve existing legal processes and offer permanent guarantees to essential foreign workers, who are a pillar for the national economy.

What is Biden’s immigration plan on his agenda?

On October 28, the White House unveiled its ‘Build Back Better’ agenda, which includes an immigration section.

It is worth mentioning that this immigration resolution is relatively small in comparison to initial plans of the Biden administration and Democratic leaders in Congress, who sought to open a path to citizenship for approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Biden proposes in his agenda, among other things, to invest approximately $100 billion to repair the immigration system. That includes expediting immigration programs to reduce irregular migration by optimizing existing legal processes and offering amnesty for eligible undocumented immigrants, as long as it is within the framework of Congressional law.

After multiple failed attempts, the Biden administration is now trying to take a softer approach to immigration in order to make as much progress as possible on this controversial sector; but this goal will be very difficult to achieve without the support of the Democratic Caucus in Congress, especially when it involves irregular migration and undocumented foreigners.
