Biden Tells Undocumented Immigrants not to Come to the Country

President Biden's message to undocumented immigrants

Biden tries to control the situation at the borders

Border forces such as CBP (Customs and Border Protection) have apprehended a growing number of undocumented immigrants at the US borders, creating uncertainty among the American population as to whether President Joe Biden’s immigration policies are increasing irregular immigration.

The reality is that the surge of illegal border crossings also has to do with other external factors such as the global Coronavirus pandemic and the economic situation in several Central American countries, if not all. However, opposition groups will clearly try to undermine Biden’s proposals and his immigration bill.

The Biden administration is trying to control the situation at the borders to prevent it from becoming an obstacle to promoting the first comprehensive immigration reform since the 1980s. In fact, President Biden and his cabinet, including the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) Secretary, have been quite clear regarding border restrictions still in place due to the health crisis caused by the Coronavirus.

Most undocumented immigrants apprehended at the borders are being returned to Mexico or other Central American territories almost immediately to prevent immigration detention centers from becoming overcrowded and avoid another massive outbreak of COVID-19 among immigrant communities.

President Biden’s message to undocumented immigrants

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, President Joe Biden gave an interview to ABC News, where he talked about the increase in illegal border crossings and sent a clear message to immigrants trying to enter the US without prior authorization, including unaccompanied minors.

President Biden stated that it is not the right time to come to the US because the health risk is still present, the government has not yet redistributed the resources necessary to create effective resettlement programs for vulnerable communities such as asylum seekers, and his administration will try to support the Central American territory to improve the quality of life of its citizens and reduce irregular immigration.

Biden’s message is, “I can say quite clearly: Don’t come over (…) Don’t leave your town or city or community.” The president declares that his administration still needs time to rebuild a broken immigration system.
