Biden Plans to Help Central America to Reduce Immigration

Biden will implement a strategy for Central America

Immigration policies are about to change again with Biden

Immigration has always been a very controversial issue among the American population and the different local political parties. The way in which the government manages and controls the immigration sector constantly draws the public’s attention. This is mainly due to the fact that the US attracts thousands of immigrants annually, who yearn to gain work experience, reunite with their families, request international protection through humanitarian programs, study, invest, create entrepreneurship projects, inter alia.

Therefore, the immigration system is quite comprehensive and the US government tends to change immigration guidelines and policies depending on its ideals, vision, goals, proposals, and promises made during political campaigns. For instance, in the case of the current administration, led by President Donald Trump, immigration processes have changed dramatically because it has always had the intention of reducing immigration, both legal and illegal.

However, despite the fact that President Trump was seeking re-election, Democratic candidate Joe Biden took the victory in the November 3 elections. He will take office in January 2021, and will be the 46th president of the US. Unlike President Trump, the president-elect has a welcoming vision when it comes to immigrant communities, including those without documentation.

Therefore, the immigration system will once again have a transition period and many policies will change under the Biden administration, who plans to increase benefits and alternatives for immigrants. With this, we refer not only to the most vulnerable immigrant communities such as asylum seekers, but also to highly skilled foreign workers, international students and investors, who have also lost opportunities under the Trump administration.

Biden will implement a strategy for Central America

The Biden administration is aware that immigration is a controversial issue in the US and that, without the right policies, it could be massive and trigger a crisis. Therefore, the president-elect and his cabinet plan to implement multiple strategies to reduce illegal immigration without putting the lives of innocent people at risk.

For instance, the Biden government will develop an action plan to help Central America since, in its opinion, mass immigration, especially illegal, happens due to the lack of job opportunities, social benefits, quality of life and economic stability, which forces Central American citizens to seek alternatives in other countries in order to survive.

Therefore, the Biden government plans to invest $4 billion, over 4 years, as a regional strategy to correctly address the causes of mass immigration and improve the quality of life of Central American citizens, so that they can boost the economy in their territories and to avoid a humanitarian crisis at the US’ borders.

Apart from that, the president-elect also plans to expand agreements with neighboring countries to protect the human rights of the most vulnerable immigrant communities and offer options for them to find economic stability and build a decent future for their families.
