Arizona Attorney General Also Files Lawsuit Against Biden

Arizona Attorney General asks Biden to resume Trump's immigration policies

Arizona Attorney General asks Biden to resume Trump’s immigration policies

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed a lawsuit against the Bien administration, arguing that its immigration policies and the relaxation of border restrictions, which were implemented by former President Trump and his team, are affecting multiple states and the American population in general.

In the lawsuit, Brnovich calls for the re-implementation or resumption of two policies used by the Trump administration:

  1. The construction of the border wall that separates the US from Mexico, which was one of the main proposals of Trump’s political campaign for the 2016 elections. This border wall was intended to curb massive irregular migration.
It is worth mentioning that the Trump administration was not the first administration to build a portion of the border wall as a strategy to reduce illegal immigration.
  2. To re-implement Trump’s “Public Charge Rule”, which allowed immigration officials to reject certain applications if the individual could become a burden to the local economy. In other words, this rule almost automatically denied immigration cases if the applicant had used public services in a certain period of time, except for some specific cases.

This is not the first time an Attorney General sues the Biden administration over its immigration policies. In fact, the Texas Attorney General has already filed three lawsuits and the most recent is related to a policy that affected thousands of asylum seekers. Government members do not support the idea of removing Trump’s immigration policies

The immigration system changed considerably under the Trump administration, which increased restrictions on multiple existing processes and tried to narrow options available for foreigners to come to the US during the last four years. These limitations affected all kinds of communities, from foreign workers and international students, to asylum seekers and refugees.

In addition to legal immigration programs, former President Trump also ordered the construction of the border wall to curb irregular immigration and increased border regulations to enforce immigration law, leading to a substantial increase in the number of deportations.

Naturally, during Trump’s term, dozens of activist groups tried to legally challenge his restrictive policies. Now that President Biden is leading the White House, there are also opposition groups and even several members of state governments, apart from the Arizona Attorney General, who do not support his immigration policies and ask his administration to reinstate Trump’s border restrictions, as well as certain rules related to undocumented immigrants, deportation proceedings, and asylum seekers at the borders.
