Activists Urge Biden to Rescind More Discriminatory Policies

Advocates urge the Biden administration to act even more on immigration

Trump’s travel ban

Former President Donald Trump never agreed with mass immigration. In fact, his team substantially restricted legal alternatives for foreigners to come to the US over the past four years, including vulnerable populations such as immigrants fleeing persecution, and narrowed possibilities for undocumented foreigners.

One of former President Trump’s well-known restrictions is the so-called “Muslim Ban,” which refers to a series of executive orders issued by the previous administration that limit the entry of foreigners from Muslim and African countries to the US.

The previous administration released the Muslim Ban from Trump’s first days in office in 2017 and modified it multiple times throughout his term, adding more countries to the list and increasing restrictions for citizens of these countries.

Former President Trump stated, when issuing the executive order that considerably reduced possibilities for Muslim and African citizens, that this rule would protect the North American territory from terrorism.

The Biden administration removed Trump’s Muslim ban

The current President of the US, Joe Biden, and his team acted promptly on the immigration sector just after taking office in January 2021. President Biden constantly emphasizes that reforming the local immigration system is a priority to attract talent from abroad and boost the economy in times of crisis with the support of foreign workforce.

It is important to remember that the Trump administration implemented hundreds of rules such as the Muslim Ban on immigration processes. Thus, in order to promote comprehensive immigration reform, the Biden administration must initially remove, modify, and rescind Trump’s restrictive policies.

Speaking specifically about Trump’s Muslim Ban, President Biden issued an executive order on his first day in office, permanently removing the “Discriminatory Bans on Entry to the United States” implemented by the previous administration, including the Muslim Ban.

Advocates urge the Biden administration to act even more on immigration

Dozens of activists have congratulated and applauded the Biden administration for rescinding Trump’s restrictive policies such as the Muslim Ban. They state that this is the first step to pave the way for comprehensive reform and to improve the local immigration system.

However, according to a recent PBS NewsHour Weekend report, several advocates urge the Biden administration to implement more changes on the immigration sector to remove discriminatory policies and promote social and multicultural inclusion and diversity among the American population.

They state that there is still a long way to go to repair the damages and repercussions caused by rules and limitations implemented by the previous administration. In fact, one of them openly declared: “But what if what if somebody like Trump comes back again? We need to make sure that we have the right policies in place to avoid anything like that happening again to anybody. “
