Joe Biden Aims to Protect DACA

Biden wants to remove restrictions on DACA

The government’s purpose to eradicate DACA

One of the primary goals of the current administration of the US is to reduce immigration at all costs.

Since President Trump launched his political campaign in 2015, he has referred to immigration as something negative, arguing that it affects tremendously the country’s economic system and saturates essential resources that should be available only to American citizens.

Therefore, his intention to eradicate illegal immigration and to substantially reduce legal immigration, has caused the president to adopt measures, restrictions and requirements that lengthen the established processes and hinder some options for foreigners to come to the US.

For instance, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is one of the programs most affected by Trump’s immigration policies.

Broadly speaking, this program offers protection for two years to immigrants who came to the US without legal documentation when they were minors. It means that people covered by DACA cannot be deported while their permit is valid.

The Trump administration has tried to remove DACA from benefits offered to immigrants, arguing that granting protection and residency to people who cross borders illegally is like giving a gift to someone who violates local laws.

However, despite the government’s attempts to remove it, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled in favor of DACA in June 2020.

The current administration continues with its intention to eradicate the program and if President Trump wins re-election in November, he will most likely take the case back to the Supreme Court for a second review.

Biden wants to protect DACA

The strongest candidate besides Donald Trump is Joe Biden, a member of the Democratic political party, who has a stance diametrically opposed to the current president on immigration.

Biden served as vice president during the term of Barack Obama. This was actually the time when DACA was established, during 2012.

Therefore, Biden plans to continue protecting DACA and immigrants who came to the US as minors.

Biden openly states that the country’s success relies heavily on foreign workforce and immigrant communities that bring innovation, entrepreneurship, inspiration, and only yearn to build a promising future for their families.

In fact, in the immigration section of Biden’s official website, it states: “Biden will remove the uncertainty for Dreamers by reinstating the DACA program, and he will explore all legal options to protect their families from inhumane separation.”

The next President will be paramount for the immigration sector

Since the two strongest nominees have different points of view when it comes to the immigration sector, it is essential for the local population to thoroughly analyze the proposals of both candidates.

Social discernment becomes a key element during these uncertain times. It is important to remember that we are going through not only a health crisis, but also a political, social and economic crisis.
