The context of the military conflict in Ukraine

Ukraine is currently facing a military attack by Russia. This situation has forced hundreds of people to leave their homes and seek refuge in neighboring territories.

According to data collected by the United Nations (UN), approximately 1 million Ukrainians have been forcibly displaced in the last week to nearby countries such as Poland.

That is why the European Union (EU) decided to grant humanitarian support and migration licenses to those displaced by the war.

Political leaders call for humanitarian support from Biden administration

Meanwhile, representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties sent a letter to the DHS, requesting to grant TPS to Ukrainians currently living in the country.

In the letter, political leaders state that due to the condition currently facing Ukraine, there is no guarantee for the safe return of undocumented immigrants, thus it is essential to provide temporary immigration relief to Ukrainians currently living in the US.

It is important to clarify that TPS is a benefit that provides relief from deportation to immigrants who come from regions where extraordinary conditions such as natural disasters or ongoing wars threaten the lives of their inhabitants.
