Research: What does the local population think about immigration and COVID-19?

The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) is conducting ongoing research several months ago called “COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor”, which, among many other things, analyzes the American public’s opinion regarding immigration and the global pandemic.

Broadly speaking, KFF seeks to update vaccination rates periodically and to understand what are the most common views among local communities regarding COVID-19 preventions, the national vaccination program, and the driving forces behind the massive outbreak of the Delta variant.

Regarding the presence of immigrants in relation to the health crisis, the ongoing research, which uses surveys and other tools, has found some rather interesting and curious patterns.

Let’s look at the numbers:

  • 37% of respondents think that immigrants and tourists are bringing COVID-19 to the US.
  • Of this 37%, 40% are unvaccinated adults and 35% are vaccinated adults.
  • 55% of respondents who think immigrants and tourists are a driving force behind the massive COVID-19 outbreak are Republicans, 21% Democrats and 34% independents.

Experts contradict alleged connection between immigrants and the pandemic

Since the idea that foreigners, especially amidst the surge of illegal border crossings, are spreading the Coronavirus in the US has sparked controversy among the local population, several experts have recently commented on these claims.

In one of our most recent articles, we discussed the opinion of the White House Chief Medical Advisor, who openly states that blaming immigrants or foreigners in general for the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country is an evasion of the responsibility of citizens to access the vaccination program and follow prevention measures.

He, along with dozens of other professionals, state that the presence of foreigners could not be a driving force behind the massive outbreak under any circumstances. They state that the situation is entirely related to low vaccination rates and other influencing factors.
